In loving memory of Gladys Louise Cox Riley, May 11, 1937 – May 14, 2017. Gladys L. Riley, age 80, of Fort Walton Beach, FL, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, May 14, 2017. She was surrounded by her family and loved ones. Gladys was a strong, family-oriented woman who never minced words, and always had her door open to anyone needing advice, a warm meal, or a place to lay their head. She was born on May 11, 1937, in Blues Old Stand, AL, where she found the Lord at an early age, becoming a member of New Union Grove Baptist Church. She will now reunite with her late husband of 44 years, Franklin D. Riley; and her loving parents, the late O'Neal Cox, of Birmingham, AL, and the late Annie Lee, of Crestview, FL. Gladys graduated from Perote High School in 1955. In the same year, she relocated to Ft. Walton Bch, where she met and married her husband, Franklin D. Riley, and later had 7 children. Gladys was a founding member of Sylvania Heights First Baptist Church, and an official member since October 24, 1972. She remained a member until her death. Gladys is survived by her son, Officer Kenneth W. Riley, Ret. (Angela) of College Park, GA; 6 daughters, Cassandra L. Pfalzer (Rodney) of Jacksonville, FL; Debra A. Riley-Broadnax of Navarre, FL; Freda V. Riley of Tallahassee, FL; Glenda D. Riley (David) of Arlington, TX; Tammy D. Riley of Lithonia, GA; Frankie L. Riley of Fort Walton Bch, FL; 2 step-daughters, Lucy Hawkins (Larry) of Woodbridge, VA, and Carolyn Walker (Damon) of Panama City, FL; 2 brothers, Robert Cox of Birmingham, AL, and Joseph Cox (Tonya) of McCalla, AL; 2 sisters, Ollie R. Russell and Annie C. Lee both of Crestview, FL; 3 sisters-in-law Eunice Altman (J.B., deceased) of Fort Walton Bch, FL, Sarah Riley (Cyrus, deceased) of Lynn Haven, FL, and Mary Williams (Al, deceased) of Cleveland, OH; 10 grandchildren, 1 of whom she raised from birth, Morgan T. Smith of Ft. Walton Bch, FL; 8 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, friends and wonderful neighbors. Gladys lived a long and prosperous life. She will be loved and missed by her family, friends, and community. McKinnie Funeral Home of Crestview, FL, is in charge of arrangements.
